8 Beverages for Flawless and Glowing Skin
Maintaining beautiful, healthy skin requires more than just applying expensive beauty products and a consistent trip to the Dermatologist — nutrition plays a very important role too.
Our skin is a mirror of what’s happening inside our bodies. Therefore, healthy skin cannot exist without a healthy body. So when we are healthy and clean on the inside, our skin cells will be visibly nourished on the outside.
In my previous articles, I already talked about natural and frugal ways to get glowing skin, as well as spices that you can incorporate into your diet and skincare routine. Now for today’s blog post, let’s focus on 8 skin-loving drinks and beverages for maintaining a healthy glow.
1. Tomato Juice
Tomatoes contain high levels of lycopene, which is an antioxidant that support smoother and healthier skin. Aside from that, it’s also rich in vitamins and iron, which all together, can restore the glow of dull skin. Tomatoes also have astringent and pore-shrinking properties that can help reduce excess sebum, tighten the skin and minimize the chances of getting blackheads and acne.
2. Cucumber Juice
We’re all familiar with applying cucumber slices to our eyes to help calm puffy eyes, but did you know that drinking fresh cucumber juice can also give you healthy skin from within? It’s kind of a beauty cliche but trust me, it works because it has properties that can calm inflammation. Therefore, drinking cucumber juice can help reduce the likelihood of overall redness and puffiness, and soothes the skin. Plus, cucumbers are 99% water, which can only mean – SKIN HYDRATION!
3. Green Tea
Green tea is a superfood that’s loaded with antioxidants, nutrients and anti-inflammatory properties that can help maintain collagen levels and hydration from within, resulting to firm, smooth, soft, and wrinkle-free skin.
4. Pomegranate Juice
If you think green tea is oozing with antioxidants, well, pomegranate has over twice as much!
5. Carrot Juice
Carrots may be known to contribute with strong vision because of its high levels of Vitamin A. You might not know this but Vitamin A and Retinol are one, and I’m sure you’ve heard about the Retinol-craze in the skincare community. Retinol or Vitamin A, stimulates production of new skin cells, and without it, skin can become overly dry and dull-looking. So forget about those expensive retinols in a jar, drink carrot juice instead.
6. Barley Tea
Ever wondered why Koreans have glass-looking skin? Well, aside from there multiple-step skincare routine, they also drink Barley Tea with every meal which does wonders not just for the digestive system but the skin as well. Barley Tea is rich in antioxidants that prevent the formation of peroxynitrite, an oxidant that damages the skin tissue and DNA that lead to wrinkles. If you want tight and plump skin, try adding Barley Tea to your diet.
7. Bone Broth
Yes, you read that right. Bone broth is so rich in amino acids that help promote collagen production. With all the collagen in bone broth, you’ll definitely be able to preserve a youthful-looking skin. You don’t have to always drink it like juice; you can sip on a bone broth soup, add to your smoothies or mix it in your oatmeal. This bone broth starter kit from Osso Good is made with grassfed and finished beef, organic chicken, organic turkey, and Berkshire pork & organic vegetables that are slowly simmered for 18 hours for a flavorful bone broth that is full of amino acids, minerals and nutrients!
8. Water
I’m sure you’ve heard this a million of times already but this is really the key to having a healthy skin. What happens to your skin if you don’t drink enough water? It gets dry and dull because it’s not properly moisturized from within. Breakouts can also occur from dehydration because your skin isn’t able to flush out the toxins that build up in your body. Also, you’ll notice your under eye circles getting darker, and wrinkles getting more visible. That being said, make sure you get adequate water intake every single day.
Remember, if you want to achieve a healthy looking appearance, you should spend time and money not just on fancy creams and treatments, but on feeding your body with healthy habits and good nutrition too.
